Ankle ligament injuries are one of the most common musculoskeletal injuries.

Traditionally this would be treated with rest and elevation, but frequently patients go on to have residual pain, instability and re-injury, but with the right rehab that could be a thing of the past. Research in the British Medical Journal suggests that neuromuscular training is better for treating ankle sprains compared to traditional rest and elevation alone. It recommends that ‘functional’ exercises as part of a rehabilitation protocol may reduce the risk of re-injury and improve stability. A good sports therapist will devise a programme tailored to your needs and help keep you motivated on the road to recovery.
